SEVERAL DOCUMENTARY TESTIMONIES FROM THE PERIOD OF CONFESSOR IOASAF’S ABBACY AT SECU MONASTERY (1854–1855)
(Abstract)
Between 1779 and 1910, Secu Monastery was administratively united with Neamţ Monastery, according to a Charter revised in 1843, which stipulated that Secu be led by an abbot subordinate to the hegumen of Neamţ. In 1854, Father Confessor Ioasaf replaced Theodosie as abbot following the latter’s resignation due to health reasons. Archival documents detail the monastery’s income and expenditures and highlight disciplinary tensions during Ioasaf’s tenure, who resigned in 1855 citing inability to continue his duties. Biographical information portrays Ioasaf Apostol as a respected confessor with a long-standing service at Neamţ and Secu, though some biographical details remain uncertain.
